GOTS = GOODfromCotton!

GOTS = GOODfromCotton!

Our 'cotton & linen' brands are all GOTS certified.
That sounds fantastic, but what does it actually mean? GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standards and is the strictest and best-recognized independent benchmark for organic cotton, linen and other natural fibers worldwide. Ecological and social criteria are also of great importance here and the entire production chain, from growing and harvesting organic cotton, the socially and sustainably producing clothing, to labeling, packaging and distribution, is examined. You don't just get a GOTS certification. It is therefore clearly visible on the label on and in the clothing.

The main criteria a brand must meet to obtain GOTS certification are:

- To be labelled 'organic', a GOTS certified garment must consist of at least 95% certified organic cotton fibres. A product labelled 'made with organic' must be made with at least 70% certified organic cotton fibres.
- At all stages of the production process, organic cotton products must be separated from products made from conventional fibres.
- The use of toxic paints, heavy metals, formaldehyde, chlorine, plastisol PVC and many other toxins is prohibited.
- Accessories made of PVC, nickel or chrome are prohibited.
- Wastewater remaining after production must be treated in a separate purification plant. It may not be discharged.
- Packaging material may not contain PVC. Paper or cardboard used as packaging or for the labels on the clothing must be recycled or made from FSC or PEFC certified material.
- People working in the entire chain, from growing and harvesting cotton to manufacturing clothing and packaging and distribution are free workers. Forced or slave labor is strictly prohibited.
- Child labor is strictly prohibited.
- Working conditions are safe and hygienic for employees.
- A fair wage is guaranteed, working hours are fixed and not excessive.
- Discrimination in the workplace is prohibited.

So go for GOOD cotton! It's better for everyone.
