Matona, is a small and responsible family label from the Austrian Alps - run by a fashion designer/photographer couple with two young children - that creates beautiful timeless, ethically and sustainably made organic linen and cotton clothing for children and adults.
After years of building up knowledge about organic, responsibly & fairly produced cotton clothing, we are happy to expand with this beautiful natural material: GOTS-certified linen!
Matona excels in timeless designs, natural colours and a beautiful quality linen. The garments can be mixed and matched perfectly. Ideal for a capsule wardrobe! Many of the garments are gender neutral, as is the underwear. Great!
The basics line consists of shirts, leggings and underwear made of organic cotton waffle fabric. These are dyed with plant extracts, so completely without harmful chemicals.
Matona is a growing label with plenty of room for sustainable innovation. They are experimenting with ways to work as sustainably as possible. For example, hair accessories are made from leftover pieces of linen and the collection is supplemented, especially in the fall/winter, with clothing made from recycled fibers, such as sweaters made from recycled merino wool in combination with other fibers.
Mothers (and very soon fathers) have also been thought of! The Adult collection of Matona is growing and includes linen skirts, blouses and vests.
Contrary to popular belief, linen is not just for the warmer months! Like wool, linen is a natural material that is airy on warm days and forms a nice insulating layer that retains heat on colder days. The linen that Matona used for the autumn/winter collection is thicker and denser in structure than the airier spring/summer linen!
